Our Story
Founded on Yolŋu Country in North East Arnhem Land, Australia, in 2021, we have set out to promote self-care and wellness through the use of traditional and native botanicals which have been used by Indigenous nations for 60,000+ years. We use unique and diverse native botanicals that are not only effective but also respectful of the rich cultural heritage from which they originate.
Deeply respectful of this heritage, we work in partnership with Indigenous Wisdom Keepers and Traditional Owners to bring ancient and ancestral remedies to life in a way that appeals to the modern world. We walk together, side by side, to help educate the world on the supportive properties ancient native botanicals hold.
Our commitment to quality and authenticity is reflected in every product we offer as we aim to foster a deeper connection between our customers, our Indigenous Wisdom Keepers and the land from which these native botanicals are sourced.

What does Gimiyala mean?
Gimiyala is a Gumatj word (Indigenous language spoken in Arnhem Land Australia) describing the smooth and glassy surface of deep water. The kind of water you can look over and see your reflection or adjust your vision to see the depth that lies beneath the surface. Each of our creations has depth, wonder, connection and the essence of Country speaking.
Through our sustainable partnerships and authentic collaborations with Indigenous and First Nations people, we believe we can grow stronger together.

Meet our team

Maeve Colombo
Studied in health, nutrition and botany, Maeve has always had a passion for plants and their supportive qualities.
Irish born and emigrating to Australia in 2007, Maeve has found her family away from home within the Indigenous and First Nations community across Australia and has had the profound honour to live and learn alongside the longest living culture in the world for many years.
With Maeve's understanding of her own ancient culture, together with her lived experiences, she believes the world can greatly benefit from the ancient and Indigenous wisdom our First Nations people hold. It's simply time for the world to listen to our Indigenous Elders. Gimiyala is her way of helping to support this learning so we can grow strong and healthy together.
