Supporting Indigenous Wisdom Keepers

Since Gimiyala's inception, we have a deep and honest relationship with our Wisdom Keepers - one which is built on equality and trust.

We believe in working together equally and authentically which is why all our Indigenous partners are fairly remunerated for the knowledge and ancient wisdom they so generously share to ensure our products are as good as they are.

As the ancestral custodians and carers of the native botanicals used in our products, our Wisdom Keepers receive 50% of NET profits from every balm sold. The Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) of the native botanical remains with the Indigenous custodian, not Gimiyala.

It is through our Wisdom Keepers expertise and depth of knowledge that our products are as good as they are. We are proud of our working relationships and authentic ways of working. We believe in the philosophy "we all grow together, or no-one grows" to help us build a strong and sustainable future together.

Ms Djapirri Mununggirritj

Djapirri is a Senior Knowledge Holder of the Gumatj clan from Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land, Australia.

For decades, Djapirri has worked tirelessly to support her community and was awarded Northern Territory Local Hero Award in 2011 for her efforts.

Djapirri fosters strong relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples together with non-indigenous and gracefully dances in both the indigenous and non-indigenous worlds to share her passion for culture, connection, and wellness.

A profound healer and accomplished educator, speaker and artist, Djapirri sits on many boards across Australia in the education and political realm and is highly considered for her exceptional teachings and words of wisdom.
